A colony barn sits atop a hill near Palmer, Alaska, with Pioneer Peak as a backdrop. During President Franklin Delano Roosevelts' presidential term, he implemented the "New Deal" where settler's could gain land to develop farming and jobs during the Great Depression of the early 1930's. The Matanuska Valley in Alaska was one of those places where the program developed infrastructure toward these goals.
