The fishing vessel Alaska Lady moored in the Cordova, Alaska harbor at midnight in July. The vessel is a purse-seiner, a type of fishing that surrounds salmon with a net pulled by another vessel (the skiff) to pull the other end and encircle schools of salmon, as the larger vessel lays the gear around the school. The bottom of the purse-seine net is then pulled together with a purse-like string that closes the bottom, trapping the salmon.
